Mark Twain was born in Florida, Missouri on November 11, 1835 to John Marshall and Jane Langhorne Clemons. His family included his two brothers, one sister and one family owned slave. His sister Jenny influenced Samuel the most. Very often she would read stories to him. In 1839 his family moved to Hannibal Missouri. Twain had begun the book in 1876 as a sequel to “Tom Sawyer”. This book caused controversy. Huck Finn’s casual grammar offended many people in Twains time. The term “nigger” was used freely because there were slaves in the book. Even today some people are offended.
In 1903 the chapter of a great American poet came to a close.
