Investigating Chemical Equilibria
Investigating chemical equilibria
AIM:
The aim of this experiment is to study the effect of concentration changes on equilibria.
INTRODUCTION:
In some chemical systems the energies of the reactants and the products are of a similar order of magnitude so that the reaction is reversible, that is, it can take place in either direction. If such a system is established in a closed vessel, so that no gases could escape, then a chemical equilibrium is

in agreement with Le Chatelier¡¦s principle.
In order to study the equilibrium, we could not just examine the affect of concentration, but alter other factors that affect it, such as the pressure, if we had gaseous molecules or the temperature and see whether the endothermic or exothermic reaction is favored in order for the equilibrium to be established. However, observing the change of color is safer to do in order to avoid experimental errors.
