Holden Caulfield suffered from an emotional breakdown because of Jane, Stradlater, the death of Allie and James Castle, and Pencey Prep. He went through a lot for a sixteen-year-old boy, and to go through them all in a very short period really changed him. Holden’s depression was so much a part of his life that he could no longer see the happiness that was right in front of him.
