I think that a lot of the violence that Marley was referring to, however, was the violence in the streets of Jamaica, between the two warring governmental factions of the PNP and the JLP. This violence was not necessary and I think this sort of urban warfare was a big contributing factor in Marley's conversion to Rastafarianism.
